Welcome to Our Patch of Grass!
In August 2009 we purchased our first home in San Tan Valley, a sweet little semi-rural town in the Arizona desert. Our place is a modest track home with a modest backyard. By the time we got it the grass was scorched by the summer sun and a lack of water, and the front yard had been taken over by weeds as large as our car, but we hope to change all of that! This blog is where we collect inspiring outdoor spaces, showcase DIY landscaping and outdoor living projects, and chronicle the transformation of our (currently brown and barren) patch of grass in the backyard into what we hope will be an extension of our home where we can live and entertain.
As gardeners with a lackluster gardening history and thumbs more black than green, we have taken it upon ourselves to revive our barren patch of grass into something more. As residents of a desert valley in Arizona we aim to do it while learning about and implementing desert landscaping techniques that still feel lush and green. As young parents who go to school full time we will be doing as much of the work ourselves as we can while on a tight budget while we share all of our adventures (and misadventures) here with you.
